Architecturally, it is a two-story, brick commercial building featuring prominent display windows across the front. The building was constructed in 1931. The property has served as a homeless shelter since it was purchased for the nonprofit in July 1973. In recent years, the shelter has provided emergency overnight lodging for men and women, alongside hot meals, spiritual counseling, and mental health services. The facility had provided approximately 60 beds for men and women. Because the shelter consistently ran out of beds at peak capacity, the operators had to turn away individuals daily and the organization broke ground and expanded their facilities at their new facility on 2655 Valley Avenue.
